Over the past few weeks, we've been making some pretty big changes to the Analytics page on Spare Music, giving you greater access to daily performance data. We've recently made a number of enhancements and integrated with more stores to provide you daily performance data. Here's the rundown.

Stream Sources

We've added a new section to your Analytics page titled "Source Breakdown". You can now easily see what's driving the most traffic.

We've split Source Breakdowns into 6 categories:

1. User Library - Streams from a users library like liked songs.
2. Search Results - Streams from search.
3. Direct Artist / Album - Streams that have come directly from a user visiting your artist or album page.
4. Algorithmic Radio -  Streams from algorithmic playlists like Discovery Weekly or Daily Mixes.
5. User & Editorial Playlists - Streams coming from being featured on a playlist.
6. Other - Unknown sources or the platform didn't supply a source.

You can filter by each platform to see what's driving performance on that particular platform.

TikTok Integration

We’ve added a brand-new TikTok tab to your Analytics page! This exciting update lets you explore how your songs are performing on TikTok. Metrics include; Views, Likes, Comments, Shares and Creations.

Dive into the details and sort your data by any of these metrics to gain valuable insights into your audience engagement.

TikTok data on your Spare Music account updates daily, with information available starting from December 1, 2024.

By default, TikTok metrics won’t appear in your headline figures. To view your performance, simply navigate to the TikTok tab on your Analytics page.

Track Top Performers in Your Roster

We’ve made it easier to identify the top-performing artists and labels in your roster!

Under the Catalog tab in Analytics, you’ll now find two new options: Artists and Labels.

• Artists: We pull the artist name from your releases and display the total streams generated by each combination.
• Labels: View the total stream count for all releases distributed under each label in your roster.

3. Now you’re ready to start submitting your license requests. You’ll need to submit one request for each cover song you want to distribute.

Once you’ve secured your license—usually within 1-2 business days—you’re all set to upload through Spare Music and publish your cover song to platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer!

We’ll need a few pieces of information from you, including; the Original Song TItle, Performing Artists and Song Writers. The good news is, EasySongLicensing will provide all of this information once your license request is processed. So, simply copy and paste it into your Spare Music account, and you’re good to go!

We’ve listened to your feedback and made significant improvements to how we handle and present your earnings, making it easier for you to track and understand your revenue.

What’s Changing?

The new system introduces a “Statements” feature, accessible from the top bar of your Spare Music account. This update is more than just a redesign—it’s a complete overhaul aimed at providing greater transparency and accuracy in how your royalties are reported.

What’s New?

Here’s a quick rundown of the powerful new capabilities in our royalty system that we believe will make it easier for you to make informed decisions and drive the growth of your catalog.

Clearer Reporting Periods:

Each report will now be labeled according to the month the revenue was actually paid, not when the sales occurred. This means you’ll see a more accurate reflection of your earnings as they come in.

Top Splits and Releases:

You’ll be able to view your top splits and top releases at a glance, providing quick insights into your most profitable assets.

Detailed Breakdowns:

You can now drill down to the Release, Track, Split, and Store levels to see exactly how each one generated revenue. For example, if you want to see how much a specific track earned on Spotify, you can now easily access this information.

Easy Access to Downloads:

We’ve made it simpler to download detailed reports, including a full breakdown of your royalties, a top song report, and a top split report.

View Release Lifetime Revenue:

We've also made it super easy to quickly jump to and explore how much revenue a particular release made from the Library screen. Find any release and click the "Royalties" tab.

You'll see this if you're a release owner or on a split and it shows how much of the revenue you've received.

How It Works:

Let’s say you earned $500 in June 2024. Under the new system, this will be reported as part of the “August 2024” period—the month the revenue was paid. If we later receive an additional $50 from Facebook for June 2024, this amount will be added to your “September 2024” period, giving you a complete and transparent view of your earnings.

Consistent Reporting:

We’ll continue to provide monthly reports on or around the 10th of each month. In fact, we’re working on making reports available even earlier.

This upgrade ensures that you always know exactly where your money is coming from and when it was paid. We’re confident that this new system will make managing your music royalties easier than ever before.

We’re thrilled to announce our new partnership with chordCash, giving artists and labels easy access to royalty advances. Whether you’re planning your next music video, need to upgrade your equipment, or want to book studio time, we've got you covered.

What is a Royalty Advance?

A royalty advance allows you to receive an upfront payment against your future royalties. chordCash uses a data-driven approach to determine the amount you can receive based on your monthly listeners, streams, and historical revenue performance. The process is straightforward: answer a few questions, and chordCash takes care of the rest.

How Much Can I Get?

The amount of your royalty advance is calculated using your historical royalty reports. Advances are tailored to your specific terms, such as the length of the repayment period and the scope of works included.

Am I Eligible for a Royalty Advance?

Eligibility isn’t defined by strict criteria, as the decision considers various factors through chordCash’s algorithm. However, artists who have released music on major DSPs (like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon, QQ) and typically have between 10,000 to 10,000,000 monthly listeners are most likely to qualify. Artists who have maintained these levels for several months and have a passionate, engaged fan base (both on and off streaming platforms) are also more likely to be eligible.

Can My Advance Be Negotiated?

In short, no. However, you have the flexibility to adjust and choose:

• The length of the term
• The scope of works included (e.g., specific new releases and/or catalog works)
• The amount of income you retain before your advance is repaid

While you can tailor these aspects, the advance amounts are non-negotiable. They are determined by a sophisticated, data-driven system designed to help you recoup on schedule based on the terms you select.

How Do I Get Started?

Log in to your Spare Music account, click on "Tools," and then select the "Royalty Advance" option. You’ll be guided through the process from there.

When you want to switch distributors you’re often faced with a lot of unknowns. What happens to my old albums? Will I loose my stats? What happens to my unpaid royalties? Let’s answer some of these questions.

Submitting your first album

When you submit your first album with the new distributor, regardless of whether it’s new music or music you’ve previously released, a few things can go wrong. These issues mainly relate to what profile the stores will map your release to.

There’s a few ways to ensure it lands on the right profile:

• Provide all of the links of your existing profile to the new music distributor. When they deliver the content, some stores allow them to map it directly to a profile.
• When you submit your release with them, ensure you spell your artist name exactly as it currently appears on stores!

If it lands on the wrong profile, don’t worry, it can be fixed! Just ask the new distributor to reach out to the stores and map the release correctly! This is a super simple process and most stores love distributors when they do this! 😍

Keeping your old stats

You released an album over 2 years ago, it got 1 million streams and you want to keep those sales stats. Is it even possible? Yes 🎉!

All you’ll need to do is grab the ISRC that was assigned when you delivered your music with your old distributor. Generally this can be found in one of two places.

The first and most logical in our opinion is your release screen on their platform, this should contain all the necessary information about your album. If it doesn’t exist there or they don’t have a page like that, simply download or request a royalty statement and the code should appear there.

Now when you release with your new distributor, be sure to tell them of the ISRC!

The release is showing as a new release? What gives?

This happens when you didn’t provide the Original Release Date to your distributor. Generally, you’ll have two options when delivering content.

• Go-Live Date - this is the date which the release will appear on stores with the distributor
• Original Release Date - the date in which the album originally went live on the store.

You’ll need to make sure the original release date is set otherwise, it will appear as a new release on stores!

Duplicated Releases

When you change distributors, it’s likely your release will duplicate on the stores for a short period of time. This is because, both your new and old distributor both hold copies of your release. You’ll need to inform your old distributor to remove the content from stores.

When there’s duplicated releases on stores, the royalties for this can be a little funky, so pay attention!

If one of your listeners streams from your old distributors version of the track, the old distributor will get the payment for that stream. However, if one of your listeners streams from the new version your new distributor will get the payment for that stream.

Duplicated releases often won’t stay up for long however, sometimes some distributors are a little slower than others at removing content from stores, so remain patient! 🙌

Unclaimed Royalties

Most distributors report on your earnings and make a payment to you, 3 months after the month’s end. This is because the music stores both don’t release the funds or the reports to the distributor until this time period. So you may wonder, what happens to my royalties after I cancel my release with my old distributor?

Your old distributor continues to get the money for your release from the stores up until it’s removed from stores.

Your new distributor will only be able to claim royalties from the point in which their version of the release went live.

Your distributor still has an obligation (in most cases) to pay you your owed royalties. If a distributor says “we didn’t get those royalties”, it’s normally BS and you should totally call them out on that! (Link them this article if you want!)

Closing your account

Before you close your account with your old distributor, ask them the question of what happens to any other royalties that may come after you close your account?

If they say you won’t get them, don’t cancel your account, you’ll want those royalties! If you’re paying for the account, call the distributor out and say you want all of the royalties, regardless of the payment! We believe this is a fair system!

If they say you’ll get them, wave goodbye and close the account!

Let’s say you posted your release two weeks ago, and today’s the big day! Your album goes live to all of your fans and you can’t wait to share the link.

But wait, there’s a problem!

You can’t share something you don’t have — a link to where your release is live on stores. Oh no!

Introducing Store Links now available in your SpareMusic Panel

Over the past few weeks, the product team here at SpareMusic has been hard at work putting together a brand new feature called “Store Links”. We’re making it easier for you to discover where your music lives on each store you’ve delivered your release to.

Currently we’re providing links for Spotify, iTunes / Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, Amazon and Google Play. We hope to add support across the board soon for all the stores we deliver to!

The links will present themselves on your release date and you’ll also be able to add links for stores we don’t currently support too!

Stores links can be found from the “Store Links” tab on your release page and are available from today.

We think transparency is super important and that’s why Store Links are available to anyone on any plan.
