Our Product Roadmap
Here at SpareMusic, we love feedback! We thrive off it. From day one, we’ve been building a product that focuses around our users. Over the last few months, we’ve been working on improving our core product, making it easier to distribute music, find where your release is live on stores and invite collaborators to split royalties. It’s time we start focusing once more on building tools to help promote your music.
A few weeks ago, we asked for some more feedback that would help shape our product roadmap. It’s safe to say we got a lot of valuable feedback and now we’re ready to start implementing some of your ideas.
As we like to be as transparent as possible, we thought we’d share exactly what we’ll be working on over the next few months, so here goes!
Cover Song Licensing
Currently, SpareMusic requires you go and get a cover song license from a third-party. We recommend you go to either EasySongLicensing or SongFile! This often means there’s a delay with putting your release live while we verify you have the correct license which causes a lot of frustration.
We’d like to improve this.
That’s why, over the next few weeks, we’ll be working on adding cover song licensing within the platform.
We have a few ideas of how this will work. Like a lot of our services, you flip a switch and we move mountains in the background to make things happen. We’d like cover song licenses to be this simple too!
When you purchase a cover song license, third-parties often require you buy an initial quantity of downloads or streams. This can often be frustrating. That’s why we want to automate this process. You’ll pay an initial registration fee for the licensing and then we’ll manage all of the payments to the original rightsholder.
We’ll keep you updated on our progress with Cover Song Licensing as and when we can.
Artist Profile Selection
Sometimes stores like Spotify and iTunes will place your release on the wrong artist profile. This can often be very annoying and results in additional work for both you and us! When this occurs, you may not be able to pitch your music to playlists, create pre-save campaigns or may result in losing out on downloads and streams.
Throughout the next few months, we’ll be working on allowing you to select your artist profile to ensure it always routes your releases to the correct profiles on Spotify and iTunes. We’ll make this process super easy too so when you create a new artist profile, you can select the profile it should appear on!
We’ll be inviting a small group of users to test out this feature shortly. We’ll let you know as soon as we have places to try this out!
Improving Notifications
When your release gets reviewed, sent to stores or published on stores, we sent you a notification via the in-app notification system and through email. We’re focusing on improving the flow of this process to maintain a seamless experience every step of the way.
You’ve asked us for notifications when any of the following occur:
- Your release goes live on a particular store. For example, a notification when your release is live on Spotify.
- Notifications when your collaborator accepts their revenue split invite.
- A notification when we published your monthly royalty report.
We’ll be working on adding all of these notifications and making the system more optimized, so you’re always informed about where your release is at in the process!
Add More Stores!!!
We hear you! There’s still a few stores we’re missing that you’d like to see added. We’ll be working on setting up deals with these stores so we can send your music and earn more royalties.
We’ll let you know as soon as you can deliver your music to any of the stores we’ve been setting up deals with.
If you have any other suggestions, we’d love to hear them. We’ve gathered all your feedback are turning our attention throughout the summer to providing you with all the new features you’d like to see! ! You’ll be notified as each new update goes live, along with details of what has changed on the platform.
You can keep up to date with when we publish new features by clicking the purple icon in the bottom right of the platform. We’ve just added a brand new card titled “Recent Changes”, we'll publish new features as soon as they go live here!
